The freelancing economy has grown exponentially over the decade. In World Bank’s report, the projected global freelance economy value is at around $4.2 trillion (about $13,000 per person in the US), which makes freelancing the fourth largest economy in the world.

Even before the pandemic. there is an expansion in the country’s gig economy. According to Payoneer’s Gig Economic Index 2020, Philippines was the fastest freelance country in the world.

However, in the age of COVID-19, the freelancing community has been hugely impacted. In a report by ilostmygig.ph, there is an estimated PHP 285M income loss from freelancers. With the surging growth and popularity of freelancing which could represent 80% of the global workforce by 2030, the Philippines needs to invest and develop skills that will help Filipino designers and creatives withstand this hyper-changing world, meet the challenges of today, and for the jobs of tomorrow.
