Mapping, magnifying, and moving the Philippine Design Economy forward
OUR GOAL
OUR GOAL
Design Counts is being developed to promote an economy and society driven by design through a National Design Policy.
What is the National Design Policy?
Mandated by the Philippine Design Competitiveness Act of 2013 or RA 10557, the National Design Policy will underscore the key role of design in transforming the Filipino way of life.
It will help shape and influence future policies to use a design-led approach where solutions and innovations are encouraged and incorporated in building better programs, infrastructure, requisites, etc. This not just means adapting the mindset of design thinking but more tangibly, recognizing the importance of good design in the everyday life of the Filipino by discovering the nation’s capacities and how to use them, and integrating national culture into future-proof innovations.
Design Counts comes in by providing the much-needed insight to make the first National Design Policy happen highlighting the MSME competitiveness in line with national development goals. The results of this mapping will be a key reference in crafting the policy that is envisioned to launch the Philippine design economy forward.
Design Counts is building longer tables for all stakeholders to be counted and be part of the conversation in crafting design policy actions that will impact the industry on a local, regional, and national level. It is about bringing out the unique voice and value of Philippine design, and moving the national design industry forward.
More about the Philippine Design Competitiveness Act of 2013 (RA 10557)
RA 10557 pushes forward competitiveness and innovation in Philippine products and market-responsive design services while championing local economic and environmental sustainability. It highlights the influence of design and creativity as key factors to adapting in the modern world without leaving behind the roots and identity of Philippine culture. Lastly, this law protects local creative communities and industries by advocating intellectual property rights to the original ideas, innovations, and solutions made by designers, creatives, and artists.
